Term 2, Week 4

Hi Piwakawaka whanau,

Unfortunately we had a lot of absences this week due to sickness, I hope you all get well soon.

We’ve had a fun week this week with bike day postponed until Wednesday due to the well needed rain that came on Monday. everybody in the class had a really good try at riding whilst learning about bike safety. We’ve now got our school bikes out and the kids are practising hard at lunchtime as well.

Our letter of the week this week and last week was h. We made hats and helicopters. Although the helicopters did not work so we’re going to have another, modified go this Friday.

Next week we are continuing tall letters with the letter b. You could start asking your child if they know any words that begin with the sound of ‘b’ to help them.

On Saturday, Ethan turns 6 – Wow, a whole year at school – Happy Birthday Ethan!

Don’t forget that you can leave a positive comment on this blog and I will read it out to the class.

Week 2

It has been a bit of a messy week this week in Piwakawaka Room. I have been away Monday and I am going on a course to learn about dyslexia on Thursday and Friday (Mrs Gilmore will be working with the kids – how exciting!). However, there is lots of learning going on.

We are learning how to say the name of the letter, the sound that it makes and how to write the letter, plus coming up with lots of words that begin with the letter. Ask your child if they can remember?

We have also learned a song called “Tooty-ta” – the kids can show you how the actions go, it’s quite funny.

Welcome to Piwakawaka’s class blog for Term 2

Kia ora whanau of Piwakawaka Room, and welcome to our new class blog.

I hope that you have all had a great break. I am looking forward to seeing your kids back in school ready to go for Term 2.

In this blog I will update you weekly on the learning that has been going on in our class for the week. You are welcome to comment on the posts in a positive way and I will read out any comments to the class. In the past I have found digital feedback from whanau to be very motivating for our tamariki.

Term 2 is a big learning term and includes a trip to Mania and Matariki. We are continuing to have Matua Eru teaching us the ukelele and visits from Whaea Lisa helping us with Te Reo. We are getting right into it in week 1 with reading, phonics, writing and maths all of which are detailed in our class site – which is updated regularly – go and have a look. The letter of the week for week 1 is t, have a chat with your child about words that begin with t.

Here’s to a great first week back, I look forward to reading your comments.
