Hi Piwakawaka whanau,
Unfortunately we had a lot of absences this week due to sickness, I hope you all get well soon.
We’ve had a fun week this week with bike day postponed until Wednesday due to the well needed rain that came on Monday. everybody in the class had a really good try at riding whilst learning about bike safety. We’ve now got our school bikes out and the kids are practising hard at lunchtime as well.
Our letter of the week this week and last week was h. We made hats and helicopters. Although the helicopters did not work so we’re going to have another, modified go this Friday.
Next week we are continuing tall letters with the letter b. You could start asking your child if they know any words that begin with the sound of ‘b’ to help them.
On Saturday, Ethan turns 6 – Wow, a whole year at school – Happy Birthday Ethan!
Don’t forget that you can leave a positive comment on this blog and I will read it out to the class.
Kia ora Piwaiwaka whanau, my name isTaria from Tautoro Kura. I really love how you were learning about bike safety. This post reminds me of when I got my first bike and when my mum and dad bought me heaps of safety gear to wear so if I fell off my bike, I was protected. Next time maybe you can take a longer clip and do more talking about what you guys are doing but other then that your post was really good keep up the great work.
Kia ora Piwakawaka. My name is Shanaya and I’m from Bay College. I hope your helicopters go well this time around! And Happy Birthday Ethan, Congrats on one whole year at school. A word that I can think of that starts with b is bread. Have a great week and keep practicing your bike skills!

Hi Piwakawaka school, I’m from bay of island college (boic for short) I really enjoyed reading and watching your guys videos. It was amazing and really cool.
This post is absolutely astounding!!! I adore the way you posted the video of the kids riding around on a perfectly intact TigerTurf astroturf tennis court. It doesn’t trigger me in the slightest! One thing to change next time, if I may, Is to add a few extra parts of text.
Kia Ora Piwakawaka whanau from Umawera School!
I am a student from Bay of Islands College, Kawakawa. I think its awesome you are learning about Bike Safety. I remember doing this when I was your age at school. Dont do what I did which was when trying to do a wheelie without a helmet on. I fell backwards and had a big gash on the back of my head and the handle bars gashed my hand. I still have the scars today and remember it clearly. Your video was cool, next time ask your teacher to get some ramps for you to go over to help with your balance.
Keep up the awesome mahi.

Kia ora Piwakawaka my name is Pounamu I am a year 5 learner and I go to Kawakawa primary school. I really liked how you guys are Piwakawaka whanau and hope all of your sick people get better soon. I really did not know that much about about a bike helmet for safety so when you fall of your bike on your head it would protect it . If you didin’t have a helmet your head would probably crack open. Did you your class all or whanau ride a bike I didin’t see the video very well I also liked the cool sounds. Thank you for this awesome blog post by Pounamu come check out my blog. https://kpspounamuc.edublogs.org/
